The Set Grade bar

Manual Grade chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Manual Grade › The Set Grade bar

Manual grade parameters are entered in the inline Set Grade bar along the bottom of the map. It is not a popup — it is always visible whenever auto-grading is not active, and it hides while grading runs. There is no Cancel button; just leave it alone if you don't want to change anything.

Fields:

  • Target Grade % — accepts digits and a single decimal point. A minus sign cannot be typed — pick Downhill instead. 0 is allowed for a level pad; there is no enforced upper bound, but 0.05% to 5% is the working range for surface drainage.
  • Direction — a segmented Uphill / Downhill toggle. Uphill is a blue up arrow (the design rises away from 0+00); Downhill is a red down arrow (the design falls away from 0+00). The bar remembers your last choice.
  • Depth Offset (in) — or (cm) in metric. A positive-only depth below the captured 0+00 reference. Blank means 0; negatives are rejected (the input won't take a minus sign).
  • The green button reads Set Grade until parameters are first applied, then Apply on later edits. It is disabled until the grade parses as 0 or higher and the Depth Offset field is blank or parses as 0 or higher.

What Apply does:

Applying while a segment is open closes that segment; the new parameters take effect when the next Start anchors a fresh 0+00.

Depth Offset semantics:

The target is computed as start_elevation − depth_offset ± grade × distance. Each segment stores its own depth offset, and the offsets persist in saved jobs — legs after Change Grade can each run at a different depth.
