Field Mode (beta)

Chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Field Mode (beta)

Field Mode is an optional way to organize your work by field. With it on, every survey, design, grading job, and benchmark you make can be tagged to a field, and a whole-field map view shows all your past runs on that field at once. It is off by default and changes nothing until you turn it on.

Turning it on

Open Settings → Fields and switch Field Mode on. A one-time notice reminds you it's in beta and that your work stays safe. Tap OK. (If you don't see a Fields section, your build has the feature gated — contact support.)

Picking a field

Once it's on, a field chip appears at the top of the sidebar. It reads Unfiled until you pick a field; tap it to open the Fields list. There you can:

  • Tap a field to make it the active one.
  • Tap Add Field to create a new one (name it and it becomes active).
  • Use a field's menu (three dots) to Rename Field or Delete it. Deleting a field does not delete its files — that work simply becomes Unfiled.

Unfiled is always at the top of the list. Anything you save while Unfiled is active is saved exactly the way the app has always saved it — with no field tag.

Choosing a field when you start work

With Field Mode on, tapping a workflow card on the Home screen first asks you to confirm the field for that job. Pick one (or add a new one) to continue, or tap Cancel to stay on Home.

What gets tagged

While a field is active, new surveys, designs, grading jobs, levee jobs, LiDAR fields, and saved benchmarks are tagged to it. When you browse your saved surveys, designs, or jobs, a toggle at the top lets you see just the active field or All fields. Each item's menu has Move to field… if you need to re-file something (or move it back to Unfiled).

The whole-field map

On the survey and grading maps, a timeline button (a map FAB) toggles the active field's reference lines — a faint history of everything you've done on that field, drawn under your live track:

  • Surveyed runs — dashed gray lines.
  • Designed runs — dashed blue lines.
  • Graded (finished) runs — solid green lines.

This lets you line up a new ditch or tile run against what you've already done on the field. The lines are per-field, so switching the active field redraws them.

Field benchmarks

In the Benchmarks panel, saved benchmarks follow the same field scope: by default you see just the active field's benchmarks (and their flags on the map). Flip to All fields to see every field's benchmarks. Each saved benchmark's menu includes Move to Field. See Saved benchmarks for how to save and recalibrate to them.
