Connect all cables
Plug the power, GPS and valve legs of the main harness in, seal the two spare Control Module ports, and tick off the seven-point checklist.
- Full Automation Kit
- Guidance Only Kit
With the power harness, Control Module, valve and antenna in place, plug everything into the main harness and check every connection.
The Ditch Assist® plugs are shaped so each one only fits the socket it belongs in. Your job is to push every plug fully home until its latch locks, and to seal the two spare ports on the module.
Before you start
- The power harness switch off
- The implement lowered to the ground, the tractor engine off and the key out
- The Control Module, the valve (Full Automation Kit) and the antenna mounted
You need: the main harness, the power harness (already on the battery), the GPS breakout harness for your receiver (or the DB9 cable), the two Deutsch plugs from the kit, and cable ties.
Time: about 10 minutes.
The main harness
Steps
-
Check the power harness is on the battery
Both ring terminals should be tight on the tractor battery's terminals. Not done yet? See Connect the power harness.
-
Check the power harness is plugged into the main harness
You did this on the power harness page. The power harness's Deutsch plug sits in the end of the main harness's power leg (the left leg in the drawing). Push it once more to be sure the latch is locked.
-
Check the GPS breakout harness is in the receiver
You did this on the antenna page. Push the receiver end of the GPS breakout harness into the receiver once more to be sure it is fully home.
-
Plug the GPS breakout harness into the main harness
Push its other end into the GPS connector at the end of the main harness's bottom leg.
-
Full Automation Kit: plug the two small plugs onto the valve
Push one small plug onto each solenoid on the valve. The solenoids are the coils sticking out of the valve.
If the implement later moves the wrong way in the raise and lower test, these are the two plugs you swap over.
Guidance Only Kit: there is no valve. Skip this step.
-
Plug the two large plugs into ports A and C
Push the two large plugs at the top of the main harness into ports A and C on the Control Module, until each latch locks. Each plug only fits its own port: if one won't go in, try the other port.
The four ports are along the bottom of the module. The two harness plugs go into A and C; the two Deutsch plugs go into B and D. -
Seal ports B and D
Push the two Deutsch plugs from the kit into ports B and D.
-
Tie everything down
Cable-tie every cable so it can't be pinched, stretched or snagged. Leave a loose loop at the hitch and at the antenna.
-
Check the slack through a full turn and a full raise
Turn hard left, then hard right. Raise and lower the implement with the tractor lever (on a Full Automation Kit, the bypass remote). Watch the cables: none should pull tight. Then shut the engine off and take the key out.
Checklist
- Power harness ring terminals on the tractor battery terminals
- Power harness Deutsch plug in the main harness
- GPS breakout harness connected to the GPS receiver
- GPS breakout harness connected to the main harness
- Two small plugs on the valve solenoids (Full Automation Kit)
- Two large plugs in ports A and C on the Control Module
- Ports B and D sealed with the Deutsch plugs
Check it worked
Switch the power harness on
The lights on the Control Module come on.
Look at the Status 2 light
Once the receiver is set up, it blinks steadily whenever data arrives from it. That proves the cable works. The app's GPS badge shows the receiver settings are right. See Read the Status 2 light.
Common mistakes
- Ports B and D left open.
- A plug pushed on but not locked, so it works loose on rough ground.
- The GPS breakout harness pulled tight when the implement is lowered or turned.
If it doesn't work
- No lights on the module: Connect the power harness.
- No GPS in the app, and Status 2 not blinking: No GPS in the app covers the cable, pin and receiver output checks.
