Settings: Map and Drain-IQ

Default Background (Satellite, US Imagery or None), the Drain-IQ Portal URL, and the Offline Cache row with Download All, Update All and Clear: what each does and what Clear does not delete.

In the app Settings › MAP · DRAIN-IQ

MAP picks the picture (satellite or aerial imagery) under every map in the app. DRAIN-IQ sets where the app gets its Drain-IQ field list and lets you download those layers to the tablet before you lose internet. Both cards sit near the top of Settings, right under UNITS.

Before you start

  • The Ditch Assist® app is open. Any screen will do.
  • Changing the background takes under a minute and saves itself.
  • Download All needs the tablet on a Wi-Fi with internet (farm Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot), not the control module Wi-Fi. A full download can take several minutes.
  • Never changed a setting before? How to change a setting shows each kind of button up close.

Find these cards

  1. Tap Settings

In the column of big buttons down the right-hand edge of the screen, tap Settings: the fourth button from the top, with a gear icon. (On the Survey or Grade screen, tap the wrench at the right end of the top bar instead.)

The Home screen with the column of big buttons down the right edge: Home, Survey, Grade, Settings with a gear icon, Manual, Pre-Flight Checks.
    1. Settings. Fourth button down, gear icon.
  2. Scroll down a little

Put a finger on the cards and slide it up the screen (how to scroll). After UNITS come MAP and DRAIN-IQ, the fourth and fifth cards.

Settings scrolled down: the end of the UNITS card, the MAP card with Default Background set to Satellite, the DRAIN-IQ card with Portal URL and Offline Cache, and the IMPLEMENT card.
    1. MAP. Fourth card.
    2. DRAIN-IQ. Fifth card.

Map

The MAP card has one row, Default Background.

Default Background

The imagery the map loads with (Map background tile source):

  • Satellite: worldwide satellite imagery. The default.
  • US Imagery: US aerial farm imagery, often newer over fields. US only.
  • None: no imagery; the map is a plain background.
  1. Tap the box that says Satellite

It is at the right-hand end of the Default Background row: a box with the current choice and a small triangle (▾).

The MAP card: Default Background, Map background tile source, and a box at the right reading Satellite with a small triangle. The DRAIN-IQ card starts below.
    1. Satellite ▾. Tap it to open the list.
  2. Tap the background you want

A list opens with Satellite, US Imagery and None. Tap one. The list closes, the box shows your choice, and maps open with it from now on.

The open list: Satellite (shaded, in use), US Imagery, None.
The open list. The choice in use is shaded grey.
  • Default: Satellite.
  • Shown: every kit and mode.
  • None is useful when you have your own overlay loaded, or the tablet is offline with no cached imagery and you don't want empty tiles.
  • To switch for one session without changing the default, use the BACKGROUND chips in Map Layers.
  • Imagery needs internet. On the control module Wi-Fi the map shows only what was cached beforehand: Use maps offline.

The in-app manual calls these "ESRI Imagery (Satellite)" and "USGS NAIP (US Imagery)"; the app's labels are Satellite, US Imagery and None.

Drain-IQ

Drain-IQ is a catalog of drainage layers for fields (existing elevation, ponding, depressions), published on a portal web page. The app reads the catalog from the Portal URL. You show a field's layers on a map from Map Layers: see Map layers. Drain-IQ is separate from the fields you prepare yourself in LiDAR & Mapping.

The DRAIN-IQ card has two rows: Portal URL and Offline Cache.

Portal URL

Your Drain-IQ portal page (e.g. drain-iq.com/my-farm.html). Change it only when Ditch Assist support gives you an address.

  1. Tap the address box

The long box at the right of the Portal URL row, showing https://drain-iq.com/demo.html. A keyboard with letters slides up from the bottom of the screen.

The DRAIN-IQ card: Portal URL with a long box reading https://drain-iq.com/demo.html and a round-arrow button at its right end; Offline Cache reading No catalog loaded — tap Download All to fetch, with a Download All button. 1
    1. Address box. Tap it to type.
    2. Round arrow. Puts the default address back.
  2. Type the new address

Delete the old address with the keyboard's delete key and type the one support gave you. Help with the keyboard: typing and hiding the keyboard.

  3. Tap Done (or the tick) on the keyboard

The address is saved only when you tap the keyboard's Done or tick key, bottom right. If you leave the box any other way, the old address stays. An empty box is not saved.

To go back to the default: tap the round arrow at the right-hand end of the address box (number 2 above). It puts back https://drain-iq.com/demo.html and saves it straight away.

  • Default: https://drain-iq.com/demo.html (demonstration fields).
  • Shown: every kit and mode.

Offline Cache

Shows what is saved on the tablet, for example 29 fields, 9/116 layers cached, or No catalog loaded — tap Download All to fetch before the first download. Downloaded layers work without internet, for example on the control module Wi-Fi.

  1. Join a Wi-Fi with internet

Farm Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot. The control module, DIG module and Reach Wi-Fi have no internet. Help: join a Wi-Fi network.

  2. Tap Download All

The blue words Download All with a cloud icon, at the right-hand end of the Offline Cache row. It fetches the catalog and every field's layers.

The DRAIN-IQ card; at the right of the Offline Cache row, a blue Download All button with a cloud icon.
    1. Download All. Blue, with a cloud icon.
  3. Wait for it to finish

A thin progress line and a count (for example 1/116, layers done of the total) replace the button, with a red Cancel beside them. The line fills from left to right. Keep the app open. Cancel stops the download; whatever has downloaded stays.

The Offline Cache row just after Download All started: 29 fields, 1/116 layers cached, a thin progress line with 1/116 under it, and a red Cancel button.
    1. Progress and Cancel. Layers done of the total; Cancel stops.
  4. Check what is saved

You should see the count of cached layers in grey under Offline Cache. Once anything is saved, the blue words read Update All (download the rest and refresh) and a red Clear appears beside them.

The Offline Cache row after some layers downloaded: 29 fields, 9/116 layers cached, a blue Update All button and a red Clear button.
    1. Update All, Clear. Download the rest, or delete what is saved.

Delete the saved Drain-IQ layers

  1. Tap Clear

The red Clear with a bin icon, at the right-hand end of the Offline Cache row (it only appears once something is saved). A window opens.

The DRAIN-IQ card with layers saved; at the right end of the Offline Cache row, a red Clear with a bin icon.
    1. Clear. Red, with a bin icon.
  2. Tap Delete All

The window is called Delete All Drain-IQ Data? and says how much will go, for example Delete cached data for all 29 fields (9 layers)?. Tap the red Delete All, or Cancel to keep everything. Layers download again the next time you use them online.

A window titled Delete All Drain-IQ Data? reading Delete cached data for all 29 fields (9 layers)?, with Cancel and a red Delete All. 1
    1. Delete All. Deletes the saved Drain-IQ layers.
