The app closes, freezes or runs slowly
Ditch Assist shuts itself, freezes on the map, LiDAR or a big file, or crawls. Usually the tablet is short of memory or the file is too big. If it's repeatable, the logs tell support exactly what happened.

In the app Settings › LOGS; Home › workflow card › Resume Job
Android closes apps that run out of memory, and maps, LiDAR and big design files use a lot of it. Most crashes come from a low-memory tablet or an oversized file. Every crash is written to the app's log and picked up on the next launch, so if it happens more than once, send your logs.
Before you start
- Stop the machine and lower the implement before you work on the tablet.
- Note what you tapped just before it happened and roughly what time it was. Support will ask.
- Know how to close an app (how) and open the tablet's Settings app (how).
Time: 2 to 5 minutes, plus a restart of the tablet.
Quick checks first
- Close other apps. The tablet has 4 GB of memory or more (6–8 GB for heavy LiDAR work); the Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+ is the recommendation.
- You're on the current production app (version at the bottom of Home).
- Design and elevation files are thinned: under about 50,000 points, LiDAR fields under 800 acres.
Find your symptom
Tap the line that matches what you see. It opens with the causes, most likely first. Check tells you how to spot the cause. Fix tells you what to do, one step at a time.
The app closes by itself, often on the map or LiDAR
The tablet is short of memory Most likely
Check:
- Open the tablet's Settings app (how).
- Scroll down and tap Device care.
- Look at the Memory box. It shows how much is used out of the total, for example
2.4 GB / 4 GB
. The second number is the tablet's memory (RAM). Under 4 GB struggles with maps and LiDAR; 2 GB tablets often crash. (Samsung's About tablet page doesn't show RAM.)
Fix:
- Open the recent-apps screen: tap the button with three upright lines in the row of buttons at the bottom of the screen (recent apps).
- Swipe each app other than Ditch Assist up and off the screen (pictures).
- Press and hold the tablet's side power button until a menu appears.
- Tap Restart. The tablet turns off and back on, which takes about a minute.
- Open Ditch Assist again.
- Still crashing on a tablet under 4 GB: use a tablet with 4 GB or more.
A very large file
Check: It happens when you import a GeoTIFF, LandXML or design file.
Fix: Use a smaller or thinned file. Oversized files are normally refused with a message such as This DEM is too large to load…
.
A real fault
Check: You can make it happen again the same way.
Fix:
- Open the app again. The crash is saved to the log at start-up.
- Put the tablet on internet and send your logs.
- Call support and tell them what you tapped just before it closed.
The app closed while grading. Is my work lost?
Grading jobs save as you go
Fix:
- Open Ditch Assist and tap the same workflow card on Home (for example Ditching).
- Tap Resume Job. You should see the job list.
- Tap the job you were grading. You should see the coverage and pass number come back.
- If the app asks you to calibrate, do it before you start grading again.
An unsaved survey that was still recording when the app closed may be offered back when you open Load. Contour Tiling has no Resume Job on its menu: resume from the Grade screen. See Save and resume jobs.
It sits on a spinner or Loading and never finishes
A big Land Forming design is triangulating Most likely
Check: The ring shows a percentage. Over 30,000 points takes minutes.
Fix: Wait and don't close the app. See Triangulating takes forever.
Resume Job stops with nothing loaded
Check: The spinner stops and nothing opens, or Error loading jobs
appears with red detail text.
The job file is empty or damaged.
Fix:
- Take a screenshot of the red text for support (how).
- Delete that job from the job list. See Save and resume jobs.
- Load the design again and implement it as a new job.
Everything is slow or laggy
A budget tablet or a phone Most likely
Fix: Use a 10-inch or larger tablet from a recognised maker; the Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+ is the recommendation and can be bundled with your kit.
The older-tablets build
Check: You installed the older-tablets (32-bit) download.
Fix: Expect slower maps on it. A newer tablet runs the standard build.
Log Level left on Debug
Check:
- On Home, tap Settings, the fourth button down the right-hand column.
- Scroll down to the LOGS box (how to scroll).
- Read the box next to Log Level (box 1 below). Info is normal.
1- Log Level. Info is normal. Tap it to change it.
Fix: If it says Debug and support didn't ask for it:
- Tap the Log Level box. A list opens: Debug, Info, Warning, Error.
- Tap Info. You should see Info in the box.
Grading stopped when you switched apps or the screen turned off
That's a safety stop, not a crash
Fix:
- Go back to Ditch Assist (recent apps), or wake the screen.
- Tap Start. More detail: Grading stopped by itself.
The in-app manual shows a missing picture“Image not found: …”
A screenshot is missing from this build
Fix: Nothing to fix on your side. The same chapter is on this site under the app manual pages.
