Jobs change once the dirt starts moving: the outlet turns out deeper than you thought, or a stretch needs another few inches. Edit Design lets you change the design without losing the work you've done. This page also covers clearing what's loaded and picking a saved job back up.
Before you start
- To edit: a design from a survey is loaded on the Grade screen (Ditching, Simple Grading with a survey, Terracing, Tiling or Excavation)
- To resume: the job was graded and stopped at least once, so it's saved (jobs save themselves when grading stops)
- The tablet is connected, or you'll tap Simulate to practise (Connect)
Time: about 2 minutes to edit a design, about 2 minutes to resume a job (plus calibrating, if you need to).
Edit the design mid-job
Edit Design is the white button with a pencil at the foot of the chart along the bottom of the Grade screen. It's there whenever the design came from a survey: Ditching, Simple Grading with a survey, Terracing, Tiling and Excavation designs.
Tap Edit Design
Tap Edit Design, at the foot of the chart along the bottom of the screen.
- Edit Design. Foot of the chart, bottom middle of the map side.
If you're grading, a window called Stop Auto-Grading? opens first.
Tap Stop & Edit
In Stop Auto-Grading?, tap Stop & Edit (red, bottom right). The hydraulics stop and the job saves. Stay keeps grading.
- Stop & Edit. Stops grading and opens the designer. Stay, to its left, keeps grading.
The designer opens on the current design: the Slope-IQ™ Design window in Ditching.
Make your change
Change what you need, the same way as when you first designed it (Design a ditch with Slope-IQ). Here, DEPTH OFFSET goes from 0 to 1 in: tap + under its number twice.
- DEPTH OFFSET. Or any other box, tab or the outlet buttons.
Changed your mind? Tap Cancel (bottom left). Saving without changing anything also leaves the job exactly as it was.
Tap Save Revised Design
Save Revised Design is the green button at the bottom right corner, where Implement Slope usually is. Tap it.
- Save Revised Design. Saves it as a new version.
A window called Apply Revised Design? opens.
Tap Start Fresh Job or Keep My Progress
Apply Revised Design? asks what to do with the work you've already done. The original design and earlier saved jobs stay on the tablet either way. Tap one of the two wide buttons (which to choose).
1
2
3- Start Fresh Job. Clears progress, coverage, pass and nudge. A new job.
- Keep My Progress. Same job, new target. Worked surface and coverage are kept and recoloured; pass and nudge start again.
- Cancel. Back to the designer.
A window called Save Design opens next, with the keyboard.
Tap Save & Implement
The name is filled in, with the next version on the end: V2, then V3. You don't need to type anything. Tap Save & Implement, the green button in the window, above the keyboard.
1
2- V2. The earlier version is kept.
- Save & Implement. Back to the Grade screen.
Answer Auto-Nudge Mode, then tap Start
The Auto-Nudge Mode window comes up again, because pass and nudge have restarted (Nudge and Auto-Nudge). Then tap Start, the green button at the top of the column on the right.
- Start. Grade to the revised design.
With Keep My Progress, the coverage you'd done is recoloured against the new target: blue where you'd already reached the old, shallower line.
Which to choose
- Keep My Progress when it's the same ditch with a tweak: a little deeper, a different minimum grade, a fixed outlet depth. You keep your coverage map and the record of what you've cut.
- Start Fresh Job when it's effectively a new design, or you want a clean coverage map.
- Simple Grading only offers a fresh job:
Saving this revised design will clear the current grading progress, coverage map, pass number, and nudge, then start a fresh job with the new target.
Tap Save Revised Design to go ahead. The design is saved as the next version by itself.
Clear what's loaded: Reset, Start New Session, Change Mode
Three ways to clear what's loaded. None of them deletes anything saved on the tablet.
| You tap | Window | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Reset in the column on the right of the Survey or Grade screen (not while grading) | Reset All?, then Reset | Clears survey, design, progress and coverage. Back to Home, with the workflow still picked. |
| A workflow card on Home (the ACTIVE one or another) while something is loaded | Start New Session?, then Start New | Clears the same and keeps the connection. Goes straight to that workflow's start window. |
| Change Mode, above the cards on Home | Change Mode? | Clears the same and lets you pick another workflow. |
The confirm button is at the bottom right of each window:
- Reset. Clears what's loaded.
- Start New. Clears and goes to the start window.
The job you were grading was saved when you stopped. Reset doesn't lose it: Resume brings it back.
Resume a job
Every job saves itself when grading stops. To carry on another time, open the Grade screen with nothing loaded, then pick the job. In Simple Grading, Terracing, Land Forming and Excavation you can also tap Resume Job in the workflow's start window.
Tap the workflow card
On the Home screen, tap the card for the job's workflow, here Ditching (top left).
1- Ditching. First card, top left.
If the app isn't connected yet, the Connect window opens: tap Connect (or Simulate), then Continue, as in Ditching, steps 2 and 3. If something is still loaded, Start New Session? asks first: tap Start New.
Tap the ✕ to close the start window
The window asks What would you like to do? Ditching has no resume button here. Tap the ✕ at its top right corner to close it. You're back on the Home screen.
1- ✕. Top right corner. Closes the window.
Tap Grade
Grade is the third button in the column down the right side of the Home screen, under Home and Survey, with a picture of two hills. Tap it.
- Grade. Third button in the right-hand column.
Tap Resume
With nothing loaded, the Grade screen reads No Slope-IQ Design Loaded
. Tap the orange Resume button in the column on the right, under the greyed-out Start.
- Resume. Orange, under the greyed-out Start.
A window called Resume Job opens with your saved jobs.
Tap Resume on your job
Jobs are grouped by day, newest first. Each shows its name, when it was last saved, the type, when it was created and how much coverage it holds. This list shows jobs from every workflow: check the name and the type in brackets. Scroll for older ones (scrolling).
Tap the orange Resume button on your job's row.
- The job. Design name, then the type: (Slope-IQ), (Simple Grade), (Manual)… and when it was saved.
- Resume. Loads it. The bin to its right deletes the job after
Delete Job?
.
Tap Calibrate, or Skip
A window called Calibrate GPS? comes up when you resume a job (once per job per session), because the app can't tell whether the base has moved since the job was saved.
- Coming back another day, or the base has moved: tap Calibrate, then calibrate on the field's benchmark (how).
- Same day, same base setup, nothing moved: tap Skip.
1
2- Calibrate. Opens Calibrate Elevation with your benchmarks.
- Skip. Same day, same base setup.
Answer Auto-Nudge Mode
The job comes back with its design, coverage, worked surface, nudge and pass. The Auto-Nudge Mode window opens. To carry on at the same pass, tap Enable Auto-Nudge with the same Max Cut Per Pass you used before. Use Manual Nudge turns Auto-Nudge off and puts the pass back to 1.
- Max Cut Per Pass. Set it to the value you used before.
- Enable Auto-Nudge. Keeps your pass.
Tap Start
Lower the cutting edge and tap Start, the green button at the top of the column on the right. You carry on where you left off.
- Start. Pick up where you left off.
- Base set up again. Never quite the same as day 1, so raw GPS reads every spot 0.25 ft high. The shift can be any size, up or down; it's the same everywhere in the field.
- Calibrate on the benchmark. With the cutting edge resting on it, calibrating measures the shift. How to calibrate.
- Back in line. The 0.25 ft comes off every reading, so today's numbers match the job you saved.
How saving works, where files live and how to name things so you find them next year: Jobs, saving and resuming.
If something goes wrong
- Coverage and pass count cleared after Edit Design: you chose Start Fresh Job. More.
- No Edit Design button: the design didn't come from a survey (Land Forming, Leveling, Manual Grade).
- No Resume button on the Grade screen: something is still loaded. Reset, or use the workflow's Resume Job.
- The job's not in the list: My work is missing.
- Resumed, and the grade is off by the same amount everywhere: you skipped the calibration. More.
