View your jobs on a computer

Open the tablet's DitchAssist folder in the free Job Viewer on our website to see every job, survey, design, LiDAR field and log on a map, build a printable report, and export CSV, KML or GeoJSON. Check Land Forming designs before the field with the Land Forming Previewer.

Two free tools on our website work with files from the tablet. Both run in your computer's browser and read files from your own disk: nothing is uploaded. Only the background aerial map needs internet.

Before you start

Time: about 10 minutes the first time, most of it copying the folder.

  • A computer with Chrome or Edge, and internet for the aerial map.
  • For the Job Viewer: the tablet's DitchAssist folder copied onto the computer (step 1 below).

Job Viewer

The Job Viewer (support may call it the Data Viewer) reads grading jobs, route surveys, field and levee surveys, designs, LiDAR field lists, session logs, and XYZ, CSV, TSV and KML exports.

Open your files

  1. Copy the DitchAssist folder to the computer

Plug the tablet in with a USB cable and copy Documents/DitchAssist from its Internal storage. Copy the whole folder, or only the subfolders you want (jobs, surveys, designs, levee_jobs, levee_surveys, lidar-fields, logs, exports). Every step, in words: Copy with a USB cable.

  2. Open the Job Viewer in Chrome or Edge

On the computer, go to ditchassist.com/job-viewer.html. You should see a box reading Drop your DitchAssist folder — or any saved files — anywhere on this page. The How do I get my data? button at the top right repeats the USB steps.

  3. Drag the folder onto the page

Drag the DitchAssist folder (or any files from it) from your computer onto the page and let go. Or click Choose a folder… and pick it.

With Choose a folder…, the browser may ask whether to "upload" the files to the site. Click Upload: the files stay on your computer, and the page only reads them.

Job Viewer drop box: Ditch Assist Job Viewer, Drop your DitchAssist folder — or any saved files — anywhere on this page, with Choose files and Choose a folder buttons and the list of file types it reads 1 2
    1. Choose a folder… Pick the whole DitchAssist folder.
    2. Choose files… Pick single files instead.

The page sorts everything by type. Add more later with Add more files….

What you can do with it

  • See it on a map. Tick the items you want, then click Map selected to see them together on aerial imagery, with elevation profiles. Switch Units between feet/inches and metric.
  • Build a report. Report makes a printable report: a cover summary, a map and profile per item, design and grading tables, and an optional point list. Fill in Prepared for, Prepared by, Farm / Field and Notes, then Print / Save as PDF. Use it for compliance paperwork, your own records, or proof of work for a customer.
  • Export. Selected points to CSV, selected items to one KML (opens in Google Earth) or GeoJSON for GIS, or a one-row-per-item summary CSV.
  • Read logs session by session, when support asks what happened on a day.

Land Forming Previewer

Check a land-forming design before it reaches the tablet: is it the right field, which way is cut and fill, are the benchmarks and boundaries in it?

  1. Open the previewer in Chrome or Edge

On the computer, go to ditchassist.com/land-forming-previewer.html. The map on the right reads No design loaded.

  2. Drop the design file on the box

Drag the file onto the dashed box at the left, or click the box to pick the file. It reads AGD, XYZP, XYZ, CSV, TSV and Ditch Assist TXT files.

Land Forming Previewer: Check the design before it goes to the field. Open an AGD, XYZP, or XYZ file locally. Nothing is uploaded. A dashed box: Drop a design file here, or click to choose one; AGD, XYZP, XYZ, CSV, TSV, or Ditch Assist TXT 1
    1. The drop box. Drop the file here, or click it to choose one.
  3. Check the summary

Detected file shows the format, rows read, design points, boundaries, benchmarks and the cut/fill range. No benchmarks listed means you will calibrate another way in the field.

  4. Look at the surfaces

Switch the preview between Cut/Fill, Existing and Proposed. If cut and fill look backwards, the existing and proposed columns are swapped in the file: tick Swap existing/proposed columns and get the design re-exported the right way round.

Two downloads come out of it:

  • Download cut/fill JPG + JGW: a cut/fill picture with its world file. Add both on the tablet with Add Image Overlay to see the cut/fill map under your position. See Add a map overlay.
  • Download Ditch Assist XYZP/TXT: the design as a four-column file the app's Land Forming import reads.

A plain XYZ file has only one surface, so it shows elevation but no cut/fill. Use XYZP or AGD for a cut/fill check.

Good to know

  • Both tools work offline once the page is open, apart from the aerial imagery.
  • Your files stay on the computer. Close the tab and they are gone from the page; your copies on disk are untouched.
  • Want support to look at a problem instead? Send logs from the tablet: Send logs to support.
