The stats bar and its badges

The white bar across the top of every Survey and Grade screen: the numbers on each screen, the GPS badge and its fix labels and colours (RTK, FLOAT, DGPS, GPS, NO GPS, PPP, SIM), the Wi-Fi badge, the BM badge (grey, orange) and its status line, the Auto Nudge switch, CH / BERM, and the wrench. What tapping each one does.

In the app Top of the Survey and Grade screens

Every Survey and Grade screen has a white bar across the top: live numbers on the left, small square badges on the right. The badges are buttons. Learn the colours and you can tell at a glance whether the GPS, the connection and the elevation calibration are good.

Before you start

  • You are on a Survey or Grade screen. The bar is at the very top of the screen, above the map.
  • Reading this page takes about five minutes. Tapping a badge only opens a window; it changes nothing by itself.

The numbers, by screen

Each number has its name in small grey letters under it. On the Grade screen:

The Grade screen numbers: 807.28 Current (ft), 807.27 Target (ft), 807.27 Design, and 0 inches Nudge.
Current, Target, Design and Nudge on the Grade screen.

On the Survey screen:

The Survey screen numbers: 464.1 Distance (ft), 43 Points, 809.44 Start Elev (ft), 808.50 Current Elev (ft), 0.94 Drop (ft), and 0.20 A→B Grade (%).
Distance, Points, Start Elev, Current Elev, Drop and A→B Grade on the Survey screen.
  • Survey: Distance, Points, Start Elev, Current Elev, Drop, A→B Grade (%). See Survey screen.
  • Grade (Slope-IQ, Forming): Current (blade elevation), Target (this pass), Design (final design; only shown when a nudge or Auto-Nudge makes it differ), Nudge (green up, red down).
  • Leveling: Current, Target, Nudge.
  • Manual Grade: a grade chip (for example 0.30% ↓, with Seg 2/3 when there are several segments), Current, Dist from 0+00, Target, Nudge.
  • Excavation: Current, Target, Cut/Fill, and Dist and Grade when grading to a grade or design.

Elevations show -- until there is a fix. Units follow the UNITS card in Settings.

With Auto Nudge switched off and no nudge, Design drops out because it equals Target:

The Grade screen numbers with Auto Nudge off: 807.84 Current (ft), 807.84 Target (ft), and 0 inches Nudge; no Design.
No Design number when it equals Target.

The badges

The square badges at the right-hand end of the bar. Their order differs a little between screens:

  • Survey screen: GPS, BM, Wi-Fi, wrench.
  • Grade screen: GPS, the Auto Nudge switch (or CH / BERM in Terracing, before the switch), Wi-Fi, BM, wrench.
The Survey screen badges: GPS badge reading RTK 22, a grey BM badge, a green Wi-Fi badge and a wrench. 1 2 3 4
  1. GPS badge.
  2. BM badge. Grey here: not calibrated.
  3. Wi-Fi badge. Green: connected.
  4. Wrench. Opens Settings.
The Grade screen badges: GPS badge RTK 22, the words Auto Nudge with a green switch, a green Wi-Fi badge, an orange BM badge and a wrench. 1 2
  1. Auto Nudge switch. Grade screens only.
  2. BM badge. Orange here: a calibration is applied.

GPS badge

The first, widest badge: a target icon, the fix label in the fix colour, the number of satellites and a small ⓘ.

  • RTK, green: RTK Fixed. The only fix endorsed for survey and grading.
  • FLOAT, amber: RTK Float. Wait for the fix.
  • PPP, amber: a precise-point service some receivers report. Not RTK; not endorsed.
  • DGPS, yellow: differential GPS, about a metre. Not good enough to grade. (A John Deere StarFire SF-RTK reports DGPS on a real RTK fix; see DGPS on an RTK receiver.)
  • GPS, orange: standalone GPS, no corrections.
  • NO GPS, red: no position.
  • SIM or N/A, grey: the receiver says its position is simulated, estimated or typed in. N/A in red: the receiver sent a fix code the app can't use.

The app's built-in simulator steps through NO GPS, GPS and FLOAT in its first few seconds, then holds RTK. With a Bluetooth receiver a small Bluetooth icon sits next to the target icon. When no new position has arrived for the GPS Delay Timeout (5 s), the whole badge dims: the numbers are frozen. Why the fix changes: RTK explained.

To see the details: tap the GPS badge. A window called GPS Info opens with the source, status, satellites, HDOP, position and elevation, and, where the source sends them, PDOP, correction age and the Wi-Fi signal. Tap the X at its top right to close it. Every row explained: The GPS Info window.

The GPS Info window: Source Simulator, Status RTK, Satellites 22, HDOP 0.80, then Latitude, Longitude, Elevation (ortho) 810.314 ft and Speed 3.0 mph, with an X at the top right. 1 2
  1. Source, status, satellites, HDOP.
  2. X. Closes the window.
The GPS fix ladder The GPS badge in the top bar, best fix at the top. 1: RTK, green, RTK Fixed, accurate to centimetres: the only fix to survey, calibrate and grade on. Below it, not good enough: 2, FLOAT, amber, decimetres, corrections arriving but not solved yet, so wait for the fix; DGPS, yellow, under a metre; GPS, orange, metres; NO GPS, red, no position. 3: with the RTK Filter on, the default, the survey drops points below RTK and automatic grading holds with the message HOLD, No RTK Fix. The GPS fix ladder RTK centimetres RTK Fixed 1 FLOAT decimetres DGPS under a metre GPS metres NO GPS no position HOLD — No RTK Fix 2 3

Fix quality from best (top) to worst. Only RTK Fixed is good enough to survey and grade.

  1. RTK, green. RTK Fixed, accurate to centimetres. The only fix to survey, calibrate and grade on.
  2. FLOAT, amber. Corrections are arriving but the receiver hasn't solved the fix yet. Wait for RTK. DGPS, GPS and NO GPS below it are worse.
  3. HOLD — No RTK Fix. With the RTK Filter on (the default), the survey drops points below RTK and automatic grading holds until the fix comes back.

Wi-Fi badge

  • Green Wi-Fi icon: connected (control module, DIG™ module, Reach, Bluetooth receiver or simulator).
  • Grey crossed-out icon: not connected. Tapping it says Tap a workflow card on the Home screen to connect.

To see what you're connected to: tap the green Wi-Fi badge. A small window opens, titled with what you're connected to (for example Ditch Assist DIG, Emlid Reach …, Bluetooth GPS or Simulator), with Device, Fix, Satellites, HDOP and, when known, Firmware. Tap Close to shut it. Disconnect ends the connection.

The connection window titled Simulator: Device Simulator, Fix RTK, Satellites 22, HDOP 0.8, with Close and Disconnect buttons. 1 2 3
  1. Device, fix, satellites, HDOP.
  2. Close. Shuts the window.
  3. Disconnect. Ends the connection; reconnect from a workflow card or Pre-Flight Checks.

BM badge

The small square badge with the letters BM. It shows whether an elevation calibration is applied. Tap it to open the Calibrate Elevation window; the status line at the top of that window tells you exactly which state you're in.

Badges with a grey, unfilled BM badge
Grey outline: not calibrated; raw GPS elevations. Status line: Not calibrated — elevations are raw GPS.
Badges with an orange, filled BM badge
Orange, filled: a calibration offset is applied. In Sunlight (the default Display Mode) it looks the same whether you calibrated this session or the offset was restored from an earlier day.

Because the colour alone can't tell you, open the badge and read the status line:

Green status line: Calibrated to typed elevation · just now, with GPS elevation and offset
Green tick, Calibrated to <benchmark or point> · <time ago>: calibrated this session. Good to work.
Orange status line: Restored from Oct 16, 2026 — recalibrate before working
Orange, Restored from <date> — recalibrate before working: the offset is from an earlier session. Calibrate again before you work.
StateSunlight (default)Dark
Not calibratedGrey outline, no fillGrey outline, no fill
Calibrated this sessionOrange, filledAmber, filled
Restored from an earlier sessionOrange, filled (same as above)Orange, filled (a little redder than amber)

The badge is never green. Grey is fine when you survey and grade in one session on one base setup. When you need to calibrate, and how: Benchmarks and calibration.

Auto Nudge switch

On the Grade screen in Ditching, Simple Grading, Terracing and Land Forming: the words Auto Nudge with a switch after them. It turns Auto-Nudge on or off for this job: on, the sidebar shows the AUTO-NUDGE pass buttons; off, Nudge Up / Nudge Down. It doesn't change the default in Settings. See Nudge and Auto-Nudge.

To change it: tap the switch. Green with the white knob on the right is on; white with the black knob on the left is off.

The words Auto Nudge and a white switch with a black knob on the left: Auto-Nudge is off.
Auto Nudge off. (On, the switch is green: see the badges picture above.)

CH / BERM

Terracing only: a small tag after the GPS badge, CH (green) or BERM (blue), naming the terrace target you're grading. Switch it with the Channel / Berm buttons in the sidebar.

The Terracing Grade screen badges: GPS badge RTK 22, a green CH tag, the Auto Nudge switch, Wi-Fi, BM and wrench. 1
  1. CH. You are grading the channel.

Wrench

The last badge, with a wrench (spanner) icon. Tap it to open Settings. While auto grading, it first opens a window called Stop Auto-Grading?: tap Stop & Navigate to stop the blade and open Settings, or Stay to keep grading. Your progress is saved either way.

The Stop Auto-Grading? window: Auto-grading is active. Navigating away will stop the controller and halt hydraulics. Your progress is saved automatically. Buttons Stay and Stop & Navigate. 1 2
  1. Stay. Keep grading.
  2. Stop & Navigate. Stop the blade and go to Settings.

On other screens

The Field Survey, Levee and LiDAR & Mapping screens have their own top bars (point and benchmark counts, contour counts, steering). The GPS badge works the same everywhere.
