Mount the Control Module

Put the Control Module near the hitch with its ports facing down and a clear line of sight to the cab, on the magnetic mounts or your own bracket.

  • Full Automation Kit
  • Guidance Only Kit

The Control Module talks to the tablet in the cab over its own Wi-Fi, so where you put it decides how solid that link is. Mount it near the hitch, with its ports facing down, where it can "see" the cab and nothing can knock it off.

The Ditch Assist® module is sealed, but its ports keep water out only while their plugs are in.

Before you start

  • The implement lowered to the ground
  • The tractor engine off and the key out
  • Any welding on the implement finished, or the module kept off the machine until it is

You need: the Control Module, the magnetic mounts from the kit (or a bracket you make, with bolts) and cable ties.

Time: about 5 minutes.

Steps

  1. Pick a spot in sight of the cab

Put the module at the front of the implement near the hitch, or at the back of the tractor. Choose a spot with as little as possible between it and the cab. Solid steel between the module and the tablet weakens the Wi-Fi.

Bad: the module behind the scraper bowl, where the steel bowl blocks the Wi-Fi to the tablet in the cab. Near the hitch, in sight of the cab Behind the bowl or other steel cab bowl
Good: on the tongue near the hitch, in plain sight of the cab. Bad: behind the scraper bowl, where the steel blocks the Wi-Fi.
    • Land leveler: on the tongue, or anywhere with a clear line of sight to the cab.
    • Pull-type scraper: on the tongue. If the Wi-Fi is weak there, move the module up the upright part of the scraper frame, where it has a better view of the cab.
  2. Turn the module so its ports face down

Hold the module against the spot with the end that has the four ports pointing at the ground. Rain then runs off instead of sitting around the plugs.

    1. Magnetic mounts at the mounting ears hold the module on the steel.
    2. Ports facing down, with every plug pushed in.
    3. Cables dropping out of the ports, then tied to the frame with some slack.
  3. Fix it on the magnetic mounts

Set the module on its magnetic mounts against clean, flat steel. The magnets go at the module's mounting ears (number 1 in the drawing).

Your own bracket instead? Bolt it to the four mounting ears. The module can stand upright or lie on its side, as long as it is secure. Keep the ports pointing down wherever you can.

Check it: push the module hard by hand. It should not slide or rock.

  4. Keep the ports sealed

Every plug that goes into the module has a gasket, so it keeps water out once it is pushed in. An open port lets moisture in.

  5. Check nothing can knock it off

Look all round the module now. No moving part, hose or chain should be able to reach it.

Check again once the hoses are connected and the tractor can move the implement (Connect the hoses to the tractor). Then turn hard left, then hard right, and raise and lower the implement while you watch the module: nothing should hit it or rub on it.

Common mistakes

  • Ports facing up, so water sits around the plugs.
  • The module tucked behind the scraper bowl or another solid steel part, with no view of the cab.
  • The module left on the implement while someone welds.

If it doesn't work

Next: Connect the hoses to the tractor (Full Automation Kit) or Mount the GPS antenna (Guidance Only Kit).
