The Simple Grade design dialog

Simple Grading chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Simple Grading › The Simple Grade design dialog

The dialog has the chart on top, five parameter cards below, a stats strip, and an Apply Design button at the bottom. Each parameter card has tap-to-edit on the value (numeric keypad) plus the ± buttons.

The five cards:

  • GRADE % — the constant slope from start to end. Range 0.01% to 20%. Stepper increments are 0.01% below 1% and 0.05% above. Default 0.10%. For most surface drainage 0.10–0.30% is the working range.
  • DIRECTION — toggle Down (the design plane goes downhill from start to end) or Up (uphill from start to end). Tap the Down or Up button. Down is the default.
  • DEPTH OFFSET — vertical shift of the whole plane in feet (or cm). Negative lowers it, positive raises it. Range ±30 ft (±915 cm). Use this when you want to undercut the surveyed terrain by a fixed amount, or to lift a plane to fill rather than cut.
  • BOTTOM WIDTH — width of the trapezoidal cross-section, used only for the cut-volume number. Default 8 ft.
  • SIDE SLOPE — H:V ratio of the cross-section sides. Volume only.

Watch the stats strip below the cards:

  • Grade — confirms the grade you set.
  • Dir — Downhill or Uphill.
  • Length — total distance.
  • Drop — total elevation change end-to-end.
  • Max Cut, Avg Cut — cut depth at the deepest station and average over cut stations.
  • Cut Vol — estimated cubic yards / cubic meters.
  • Offset badge — if your Depth Offset is non-zero, an orange chip appears here showing the value.

Tap Apply Design when the chart and numbers look right. The app saves the design (named "Simple 0.30% downhill (Simple Grading)" or similar), opens the Grade screen, and prompts for benchmark calibration if needed.

Desk dry-runs with the simulator

When the simulator is running, applying a Simple Grade (or Slope-IQ) design automatically starts driving the simulated GPS along the proposed track, and tapping Start in simulator mode does the same. Reset stops the simulated drive. There is no Sim Grade / Stop Sim sidebar button anymore.

The Simple Grade dialog needs a survey. The dialog above is only used after a survey is loaded. If you tapped Enter Grade Only in the wizard, the app uses Manual Grade instead — see the Without a survey (Enter Grade Only) steps in Quick start for that flow.
