Activating a receiver

Ditch Assist Lite chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Ditch Assist Lite › Activating a receiver

Each Emlid Reach needs its own one-time unlock code. The code is issued for that receiver's serial number, checked on the tablet with no internet, and stored on the tablet — you do not enter it again unless you remove the receiver.

Where to find Activate

  • Settings → Ditch Assist Lite → Activate a receiver
  • The Activate button in Pre-Flight Checks when the connected Reach is not activated.
  • Tapping START on the Grade screen, or trying to follow contours in Levee, with an un-activated Reach — the activation screen opens instead.

The Activate Ditch Assist Lite screen

Not connected yet: the screen says Connect to the Reach first: join its WiFi hotspot (password emlidreach), then tap Connect. Join the hotspot, then tap Connect.

Connected, not activated: the receiver is named at the top, for example Reach RS3 · …1234 (the last 4 characters of its serial number — a receiver identified by its MAC shows …MAC), followed by two steps.

  1. Step 1 — Scan with your phone to email us the request code. Point your phone camera at the QR code. It opens an email to sales@ditchassist.com with the request code already filled in — just send it. If you would rather handle the email yourself, the Request code is printed under the QR with a Copy button.
  2. Step 2 — Enter the 10-digit unlock code we send back. Type the code in the box and tap Activate. The button stays greyed until all ten digits are in, so a half-typed code cannot be submitted by mistake.

On success a green Ditch Assist Lite activated for Reach RS3 · …1234 message appears, the screen closes, and live guidance is on. If the Samsung Wi-Fi setting is on and the Your tablet may drop this Wi-Fi notice has not been shown yet on this tablet, it may follow (usually it already appeared when you connected).

Already activated: the screen just shows Activated for Reach RS3 · …1234 with a green check.

If the code is refused

  • That code doesn't match this receiver. Codes are issued per receiver. — check the digits, and make sure the request code you emailed came from this Reach. A code issued for a different receiver will not work here.
  • Too many attempts — try again in N s — after 5 wrong codes the app refuses further attempts. The first wait is 60 seconds and it doubles with each further wrong code, up to an hour. The countdown ticks on screen and survives restarting the app. Wait it out, then enter the correct code.
  • Couldn't read the receiver ID. Make sure the tablet is on the Reach hotspot and Location is on, then try again. — the Reach's own web service was not ready yet (common right after powering the receiver on). The app keeps re-checking in the background; tap Retry to force it now.
  • Disconnect the current controller or simulator first. — you opened Activate from Settings while the simulator was running (in Lite nothing else can be connected). Stop the simulator first.

Managing activated receivers

Settings → Ditch Assist Lite lists your Activated receivers — one row per receiver, with its type, the last 4 characters of its serial number (a MAC-identified receiver shows …MAC), and the activation date (or None yet). Remove deletes a row after a Remove this receiver? confirmation: Ditch Assist Lite will stop working with … until its unlock code is entered again. The same code activates that receiver again later — codes belong to the receiver, not the tablet.
