Auto-grading the surface

Land Forming chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Land Forming › Auto-grading the surface

Once the BM is calibrated, you grade exactly like in any auto mode:

  1. Lower the blade to the ground.
  2. Tap Start in the sidebar. The blade goes under automatic control.
  3. Drive. The chevrons show whether you are above or below grade. The cut/fill heatmap updates as you cover ground — areas you have brought to grade fade out.

The map's progress overlay

The cut/fill grid is drawn under your machine as a colored heatmap:

  • Green — final grade achieved (within the on-grade band, ±1″ in Forming).
  • Blue — cut more than 1″ too deep (over depth).
  • Yellow — about 1 more pass of cutting left.
  • Orange — about 2 more passes left.
  • Red — 3 or more passes left.

"Passes left" is the remaining cut divided by your Max Cut Per Pass setting. There is no light-green band — green is reserved for final grade so you can scan the map and trust it. Cell opacity rises slightly with pass count.

If you stand still, the cell under you records every 200 ms — you can watch the color change. The grid is part of the saved job, so when you resume tomorrow you see the full coverage from yesterday.

Section boundaries (AGD)

When the design has 2BAL{n} boundaries, they show as dotted pink lines (closed loops) on the map. Use them to split the field into manageable sections — finish one before moving to the next so the coverage map clearly shows what is done.

Auto-Nudge

Available in Forming the same as in Ditching. After Apply Design, the prompt appears for XYZP files (which have known cut depths) and for LandXML design + terrain pairs. Choose Max Cut Per Pass, then advance passes manually with Pass + / Pass − in the sidebar.

XYZ files (no proposed elevations) and LandXML imports without a terrain file cannot use Auto-Nudge — there is no cut depth to compute.

Hold, Stop, Reset

Same as every other grading mode:

  • Hold — pause blade commands without exiting grading.
  • Stop — halt grading. Job auto-saves.
  • Reset — clears the active design, coverage, graded terrain, and pass count. Doesn't delete saved files.
