The 4.28.3 alpha release has implemented a few new updates and features for testing before we roll these to the long term release:

  1. Auto Nudge is currently DISABLED by default
    • Due to some user confusion and while we work on a few additional updates to Auto Nudge, it is disabled by default from release 4.28.3 onwards until further notice, and can be enabled via Settings.
    • Before enabling Auto Nudge, be sure to read about Auto Nudge in either the User Manual or at least view the Quick Start Guide to gain an understanding of how it is designed to function. It works as intended, and most reported issues were a result of users not fully understanding how it is supposed to function.
  2. Auto Download of IDM flow mapping in covered areas
    • This was also included in the previous beta versions from 4.27.2.
    • When the tablet is online (not connected to Ditch Assist module Wi-Fi), zooming in to fields in covered areas will auto download the IDM mapping
    • All downloaded IDM will be saved to tablet memory and available when offline (it will automatically display when you zoom back in to the same zoom levels).
    • Note that only zoom levels that are displayed when online are cached. If you find that at some zoom levels the IDM lines disappear this means you didn’t display them at this location and zoom level when online.
  3. Temporary RTK Loss Filter
    • This version introduces a new filter that detects temporary drops in RTK lasting just a few seconds. It is designed to improve performance where GPS signals occasionally drop out of RTK for 1-2 seconds before RTK is restored again. This has caused issues for users when surveying (large elevation spikes in survey profiles) and grading (sudden responses as a result of significant elevation changes).
    • This setting is enabled by default, and can be toggled ON/OFF via the Accuracy Loss Warning setting in Settings.
    • When surveying, any recorded points where the quality was not RTK are automatically removed, so survey profiles should only show data that were RTK accurate.
    • When auto grading using the hydraulic valve, HOLD is auto-activated as soon as loss of RTK is detected and the user notified by on-screen pop-up. When RTK is restored the HOLD is released and normal operation resumes.
      • HOLD stops any outputs to the hydraulic valve while still displaying live information on the screen
      • While HOLD is applied, the only way to operate the implement hydraulics is via manual controls
    • In our analysis and testing we found that these issues typically last 1-3 seconds, with the receiver dropping from FIX to SINGLE and then going back to FIX again.
    • NOTE: With this setting enabled, auto grading is only possible with RTK messages coming from the GPS. Users running John Deere SF-RTK receivers may need to disable this setting as we’ve found that these receivers don’t provide a true RTK message in the NMEA sentences, even when they are running at RTK-like accuracy.
